Carlingford 2018
This year as part of TY we went to Louth to the carlingford adventure centre. We left the school first thing monday morning with the buses packed with bags! After an hour and a half we arrived in Carlingford got a talk by one of the adventure centre workers to tell us a bit about the place and what we would be doing. Then we got to go to our rooms, i was in a room with Sally, Adele, Sarah, Abbie, Ella, Jessica, Molly and Rachel. We had such a good room and Molly had brought a projector so there was constant entertainment!
That first afternoon we got split into two sports groups, i was in group A and that afternoon we went to skypark. This was a set of obstacles laid out in the sky. We learned how to apply the harnesses and to clip them onto the wire. When we started it was a lot higher than i expected and heights would not be my favourite thing, luckily there was a medium course that some of us wanted to do which was much better, still scary but a lot better!
We also had evening activities and our evening activity was indoor games. Our instructor Jimmy split us into groups and we had to do different challenges to gain points, first we had to build a tower as high as we could out of shoes! we then had to nominate one person to talk to an apple! The hardest one by far was the table challenge, without touching the floor you had to climb around the table, only John and Luke could do it!
The last two challenges where to eat two dry weetabix as fast as possible without drinking any water and to sing a song with water in your mouth. With only 6 points our team came 3rd last.
The next morning we were all very excited to go out, until we realised we were going canoeing in 1 degree heat! After doing some warm up exercises we jumped into the canoes we stopped 3 times on our way around to do warm up exercises, this was definitely the hardest thing we did mostly because it was so cold!
That afternoon we did laser tag, this was by far the best activity. We dressed up in army print suits and hiked up the mountain with our guns in bags! When we arrived there were loads of huts and hills for us to hide behind. The rules were explained to us and then we got to play. My team started strong and wo the first two practise games, you won by killing all the other team members it took 30 bullets to kill someone. Then when we started playing the actual game my team won the first one, then we did a game of catch the flag and my team also won that. It was by far the best game and the trip highlight for me!
That night we did night line, we walked up to the same place as we had done the ;laser tag but in the dark. When we arrived we had to put on blindfolds and hold onto the person in front of us as we walked through a series of obstacles, it was really odd not knowing what you were walking on and not being able to see anything. After we completed the course we could take off the blindfolds and see what we were walking on which was weird as nothing felt like how it looked!
On Wednesday morning my group were doing a combination of activities. The first thing we did was frisbee golf my group was Rachel Amy and Lucia, Rachel was by far the best as it took the rest of us 3 or 4 throws to get it into the basket. We next did trampoline basketball which was a lot harder than it looked in two minutes we had to try score as many times as we could while defending to stop the other person scoring played against sally and lost 6-4! Lastly we did Archery where we started a competition but ran out of time and didn't get to finish.
That afternoon we went to Ziptopia which was up in the forest, after we walked up we put on harnesses did a training course and get started. Many parts of this were a lot higher than skypark so it was really challenging, after doing three ziplines which were great fun i couldn't finish the course as it was extremely high!
That night we had our last activity which was murder mystery during this we were split into teams again to try find a winner my team was Suki Aidan Amy and Jake, we had to find as many cells possible to solve a murder and each clue brought us one step closer to finding out who did it, although we found the killer and murder weapon we didn't win because we don't have all the evidence.
For our last day in Carlingford we started the morning by doing high ropes, this was a series of challenges extremely high up in the air, we were all strapped in so that the people who didn't want to climb up could still be involved by holding the wire of the people climbing.
That afternoon we did another exciting activity, we did crystal maze where we had to do a series of events to get as many diamonds and solve the maze. We did so many different things during this but the best one was definitely the maze itself, it was like a tunnel from i'm a celebrity without the bugs, we had to crawl around in complete darkness going up and down different levels to find out way out it took us about 20 minutes but it felt like 5 and we got lost a good few times!!
That evening we were all very sad to go and we all knew we would miss it as it is definitely a highlight of TY the whole year has definitely become a lot closer since we went and it will be missed!
