Eagle Flight Workshop
On the 21st of September, a man named Ger came in to talk to us for our Eagle Flight workshop. During this workshop we took part in the 'lost Dutchmans Gold Mine.' Her told us all the rules and then split us into teams. On my team there was Jack, Eli, Aaron and I. The game was all about getting to the mine, getting as much gold as possible and getting home in twenty days. Although this sounds simple, there was limited resources and the Artic bombs used four days of supplies!
Once we had received our supplies, we worked out the route and time we would spend in the mine. The maths was done and we had just enough to get seven gold bars. Although we had only factored in one Atomic bomb.......
We were going strong until the second atomic bomb hit. At this point the atmosphere in the room changed and everything became serious. We had to leave a little earlier than planned but we still got back with seven bars of gold after good trading by our team.
After the the game we discussed the purpose, Ger was saying each team just wanted to win and we didn't think about the whole class score. This tought me when the tunnel vision is only showing winning it's important to think about the bigger picture and all the other factors, planning and thinking actions through are critical. This was a brilliant learning experience.

IT's not just for geeks
On the 29th of September we had two people named Maire and Aidan come in to talk to us about working in the IT sector The talk was titled 'IT is not just for geeks' which is very true!
Both Aidan and Maire work in Dell, they are both at different points in their careers and have completely different interests. Maire isn't good at IT but she works in Dell as the Human Resource manager. This gives her many opportunities to travel and allows her to work in an IT based company. For me this was particularly interesting as I have an interest in IT but I'm not that confident in my use of technology. Seeing all the opportunities Maire has had in life I will definitely look into this as a possible future career. This is why this talk was hugely beneficial to me.
Aidan talked more about the technology development which was also very interesting but not something I'd consider as a future career.
This talk was hugely beneficial and I really enjoyed it.

Simon Harris Minister of Health
This week the 6th of November to the 10th of November is wellbeing week. To start off the week Simon Harris the minister of health came in to talk to us a little about his back round and what his job does. That the biggest part of his job is to try keep people alive and healthy for as long as possible. He then talked to us through the new food pyramid and the reasons why it has been changed.
Nutrition
On Tuesday the 7th of November we had a speaker come in, to talk to us about nutrition. The topic of this talk was that food can effect your mood and alter how you are feeling. She talked about eating more natural foods for better energy and how yogurt is very good for the digestive system. We also get the chance to see 'combucha' a type of fermenting food.
Anxiety and Wellbeing
On Monday afternoon we had Alison in to talk to us about her life, the struggles she faced and how she got through it. She talked about how she had been a model for years but it wasn't making her happy. She talked about her substance abuse to try make herself happy. Most importantly she talked abut how she overcame these problems. That by meditation and simply breathing using her '4 7 8' rule she could relax be with her own thought and it would ease the anxiety and depression. She now has a seven year old son and is back in college. She shows that by taking time out you can heal yourself.
Aware Talk
On Thursday the 9th of November we had our aware workshop. Throughout this workshop I received a better understanding about symptoms of depression and anxiety. In the later part of the workshop we learned about the coping triangle and how to deal with our thoughts using a process of thought, feelings and actions. We were all given different situations to see how we would deal with them.
