Legally Blonde 2018
Our musical this year was Legally Blonde, the TY musical is the main part of TY so we were all very excited when we got Legally Blonde. Shortly after we started practising, Aisling our choreographer and director and Ms Ollahan the musical director were fantastic in getting us prepared over the months. The tryouts began before Christmas when we all had to sing ‘memories’ and then act out some scenes from ‘Greece’. Unfortunately i've never been much of a singer so i didn't get call backs.
The parts were given out just before we went on Christmas break, our two leads were Abbie as Elle and Luke as Emmet and they were both incredible.
When we got back from Christmas break when the hard work began, at this point all parts were given out. I was given two parts as there's a low number of girls, i was a salesgirl with a line in the song take it like a man and also a court sonographer in the last court scene with two lines!! The hardest part about the musical was learning all of the dances, most of the girls were in every single dance so i was a lot of learning with some songs being 8 minutes long! Aisling pushed us extremely hard but it was all worth it has the dances looked amazing. The hardest dance by far was ‘so much better’ but it payed off in the end.
Once all the dances had been learned we moved onto the acting and singing, everyone who had a singing part was fantastic as it was a lot to learn and do but they sounded really great, it was amazing to listen to and when we added the dances in the background the show really started to come together. The first time we did it with the piano and not the backing track was really hard and we realized just how challenging this was going to be.
With two weeks to go we started to buy costumes and get the production on the stage. The stage looked amazing and Ms Magee and all the maintenance team did an amazing job. when we put it on the stage it and had all the costumes on it really looked great.
We had our first dress rehearsal for 6th class in the junior school, it was quite difficult to get through and organise but with the help of the band we got through it, although our audience left in the middle of it.. The next performance was for the entire junior school and it ran a lot smoother so we were all very happy. Doing it for the senior school was probably the performance that had us all the most nervous. We did get through it though and it was a very good performance.
Our first night performance was amazing everyone was so happy with how it went and it was by far our best performance to date! When the performances were finishing we were all realising that all the work we had done would be soon coming to an end. We all were tired but looking forward to the show the next night and it was again brilliant our show really was a good one! The last night had come quicker than we ad expected and we were all sad to be performing for the last time. Before the show Aisling talked to us to get us ready for the big show and she really wanted us to give it our best as it was our last time doing the show, we finished yet another amazing show and Mr Geraghty gave a lovely speech to finish it off. It was an emotional night and everyone was so sad to see the show finish.
