In English we have been doing speech writing and debating so far this term.
Sports stars are positive role models on todays youth.
Ladies and gentlemen, today I will be discussing whether sports stars are good role models, this is a highly discussed topic and today I will be giving my views of it.
I believe sports stars are good role models. They teach the youth of today to help those who aren't as fortunate as we are. A good example of this is the Miami Dolphins defensive line back Ndamukong Suh. Suh donated 2.6 million to Nebraska in 2011, 250,000 to his old high school and his family foundation has worked to provide children with school supplies, if he's not a good role model who is? Ronaldo is the poster boy perfect role model he has given millions to charities, paid for numerous children's surgeries, it would be easier to name what he hasn't done! Neymar also gives up time to charity and he says he wouldn't be winning as much if he didn't 'it gives me strength to return to Barcelona and keep running after more trophies.' I think its safe to say you've been a good parent if these are the people your child looks up to.
The great work ethic sport stars possess is also a very good trait for the youth of today to aspire to get. Athletes show that hard work will pay off and that you can be the best by simply working hard. Lebron James was born to a 16 year old mother who raised him alone moving from place to place trying to find work, he moved in with his football coach when he was nine. He is now undoubtedly the best player in the NBA. Caron Butler suffered a rough upbringing, he was selling drugs at age eleven and was arrested fifteen times before the age of 15. After a long stay at a detention centre he found his love for basketball. Especially for youth in a rough upbringing this gives them hope to show that no matter what hard work will always give opportunities and they are very good role models to show this.
To conclude I hope you can see my point of view and the reasons I think this. Athletes show hard work, determination and generosity, the most important characteristics. All people make mistakes and at times they may do the wrong thing but overall they are very positive role models for the youth today.

1984- George Orwell
A key moment at the start of the novel which highlights the bleak viewpoint is when Smith first arrives in London. Smith talks about ‘ Big Brother ‘ being everywhere and always being watched. He describes London as grim and totalitarian, ‘gritty dust’. This from the start gives the readers a clear vision of how awful London was, it sets the scene for the novel.
Another moment that stood out to me was that Smith felt so fortunate to have a corner of his apartment that was private. I really think this shows how bad things were that he was so grateful to have a corner of privacy. It makes the readers think about how unbearable this time in London must have been.
